Savory Toasted Mixed Seeds That Make Any Dish 10x More Delicious
Sesame seeds, pepitas and sunflowers are the perfect seed combo and add amazing flavor to your savory dishes
This toasted seed mix won’t disappoint!
I love to add this seed mix to my savory dishes or salads for that extra flavor profile.
I typically make this seed mix as part of meal prep. When I am already in the kitchen creating, I will throw these in a pan on low and stir between other cooking tasks.
Once toasted and cooled, throw them in a sealed glass jar and store them in the fridge; they will last for weeks. Mine never last that long because I sprinkle them on everything savory!
Ok, here’s the details — EASY:
In a small cast-iron pan (or any fry pan) on low heat (I keep it at about 3) add a small amount of extra virgin olive oil. Enough to coat the pan, but you don’t want your seeds bathing in the oil.
I am not giving exact measurements here — I eyeball it as I pour in the seeds. You can adjust the seasons and add a little extra olive oil if needed.
Add in a couple of tablespoons each of:
- Black sesame seeds
- White sesame seeds
- Sunflower seeds
- Pepita seeds
Pssst… you can use any seeds you like!
Then add your favorite seasoning (all you need is a few shakes) then stir. Taste and add more seasoning if needed. Get creative here! You can use onion salt, chili powder, garlic salt, etc.
Stir every minute or so for about 10 minutes until the sunflower seeds (or larger seeds) are visibly toasted.
Lay the seeds onto a plate to cool, then store them in a sealed glass jar in the fridge.
The taste is fantastic and you’re also getting a nice dose of fiber, protein, and healthy fats.
Top off your salad, pasta, potatoes, eggs, and more!
